Possible job, but the date hasn't been confirmed yet. Why?

Delta's birthday is on Friday, if you aren't working. We're keeping it small--cake and presents and a sign language rendition of the happy birthday song.

Does he want me there? I'll ask Maine for signing lessons if he does.

I was going to ask Maine to teach me, but that sounds fun.

He would be a good resource too. I've already talked to him. You would have to catch him on base though; he's probably going to stay the nights with us until after Delta's surgery.

I'll keep an eye out. He's not exactly hard to miss. Glad he's staying over though, that'll help D.

So am I. Even if it means I sleep on the couch. Delta needs someone and this is the first time he'll actually allow it.

God, I hate early mornings. How do you manage it?

Desperation and coffee, really. I was planning to quit once I was hired on as a TA, but it looks like I'll need to stay on until Delta's implants are paid off.

That sounds familiar. What's the latest on that?

Nothing that I've heard. I think they're still trying to figure out doctors and appointments and prices.

I wish for D's sake that they would hurry, but I'm not really sure that they can, you know?

I told Omega they're welcome to come and get checked out by our medics.

Probably not, but I wish they would too.

I hope they do. How wonderful would it be for Delta to be able to hear by his birthday?

It's wishful thinking, though. I know.

Although it would undo the entire endeavor to sign the birthday song for him. . . . Never mind. His hearing is more important.

I guess I'm afraid to hope at this point. Meeting you and Maine was the first lucky break my family's had in, well, possibly ever.

I need to brush up on my sign language anyway. Not being able to communicate with my own brother has been--frustrating? Humbling? Something in between.

Who knows, maybe I'll get more lucky some time in the future.
